![]() I would like to download the extra, official GarageBand instruments and sounds that happens from within the app. I am aware that there are downloadable updates, like the 10.6.8 combo updater, but this is more for GarageBand. I just want to patch it as far as I can from Apple servers. This iMac would not have a regular internet or network connection and would not be used to surf the web. While those updates on the links you provided may have been posted recently, the actual release dates of the latest updates for 10.6.8 were around a decade ago (look at the dates in lighter colored font). I am configuring an old iMac to use as a standalone, off network, music workstation with an old version of GarageBand. Apple doesn’t update macOS versions after n-2 where n is the newest OS. I hope this question is not out of the scope of this sub. In other words, will putting a 10.6.8 machine on my network make the network vulnerable if I am only connecting to Apple update servers? My assumption is that any Apple server updates would be encrypted, but can a deprecated OS vulnerability break that security in some way and set up my networks or that machine for attacks? Obviously, a wired ethernet connection would be more secure than wireless, but would even a wired connection be vulnerable? ![]() TLDR In building an initial set up, using a deprecated Mac OS (10.6.8), is it OK to allow a Mac to connect to Apple Servers for updates?
